Paul knocked on his door an hour later, “Uh, boss, some cop is here to see you?” he said quietly.

“Not Jenna?” he stood up. “Is it about Jenna?” his voice panicked.

“No, he’s not local. I think his badge said NYPD,” he sighed.

“Oh, fuck. All right. Send him in,” Julian gathered his scattered papers into a neat pile.

Paul escorted the tall, muscular, older man who was a spitting image of Roman. “I’ll be in the bar,” Paul left the room.

Julian stood up and looked into the man’s face, extending his hand. “I’m Julian Jennings.”

The man looked at Julian’s extended hand and crossed his arms. “I am Martin Montague.”

Julian put his hand down. “Wh-what can I do for you, sir?”

“I heard you were putting notions in my son’s head.”

“I don’t understand. Roman and I are a couple. I’m not putting anything into his head.”

“My son is not a homo and you’re making him think that he is.”

“He said you understood how he felt. He said he told you.”

“Oh, yes, he told me, but he’s not gay. It’s just a phase he’s going through. You’ll see. So, if I were you, I’d stay the fuck away from my son. You are not turning my son into a fucking woman! He’s not a fucking gay or whatever you all call yourselves these days.” He turned on his heels and stormed out of the bar, without turning back.

Julian sat down behind his desk and lifted up the photo of him and Roman, a selfie they took the other day. If there was ever a time when he was glad that they hadn’t had sex yet, it was now.

He picked up the phone on his desk, dialing Roman’s number.
